Morning Ed, I haven't done any green coffee hoarding yet but am hoping the supplies don't end up like the toilet paper isles!

Temperature Help with Gaggia Carezza
EddieDove
Is there some way to adjust the water temp on the Gaggia Carezza?

The brew temp is usually too low (below 195ºF), so I end up turning on the steam switch, then running the water through the group head until it reaches the temperature I want, then pull the shot. Not a big deal, I just wondered if I could adjust something inside.

Appreciate any help.

Eddie:
i had the same problem (brew t-stat set too low, even though it says 107C w/ 10 degree tolerance), so i went w/ a PID (held off for a little while, but got tired of trying to figure out if the ready light was being honest). i got one from Auber Instruments (you see them all the time on ebay, and Suyi is great on communicating setup parameters), the cheapest model (i actually have two from Auber, but the cheaper, smaller model is easier to auto tune and has parameters closer within the range you need for espresso). if you order the PT100 RTD to use in place of a thermocouple, you can actually adjust by .1 degree, and uses the same size bolt as Gaggia/Silvia thermostats. i got my SSR from ColdFusionX (also on eBay). i can pull walk-up shots all day now, and the only time i have to temp surf is when pulling back-to-back shots. this mod is very easy and i'd be happy to walk you through it should you opt to go this route.

Stereo,

Thanks you very much for the info! I may have to take you up on that offer.

I have 2 pounds of roasted Liquid Amber waiting for me to practice with my new Thor Ridgeline Tamper this weekend. Maybe I will get good enough, maybe I will need to install the PID stuff, maybe there won't be anything left in which to install the PID ... Grin

We shall see.
