Morning Ed, I haven't done any green coffee hoarding yet but am hoping the supplies don't end up like the toilet paper isles!

Hello from Berkeley, California
Tjames
I’ve been roasting on/off for a while but mostly unsuccessfully with a cast iron, heat gun, or some combo of both. I’m building a custom roaster on a budget for small batches. It’s still in the drafting phase but I’m looking at an insulated metal box design with PID controlled heating element, air recirculation fan, small steel rotisserie drum, and a couple thermocouples hooked up to Artisan to provide profile data. Still unsure of which heating element to use, a standard stove coil is all I am thinking.

I joined the forum to look for ideas and learn more about what makes a good roaster. Thanks for having me.

I recommend you too look instead to a turbo oven lid based build, like SCTO or KKTO.
Simpler to build than an oven/drum assembly, and better heat circulation.
Cheaper... also, simpler to measure bean temp.
