Random Potato Aroma
I roasted up a Tanzanian Peaberry just a few days ago. Profile went smooth and finished FC around the 11min mark. Beans looked great but when I went to grind up the first brew it had this crazy meaty-potato aroma?! The kids thought I was cooking something instead of brewing a pot of coffee. I've never had this happen before. Didn't spot any quakers post roast.

I want coffee at 7am not a crock pot meal!

Any ideas on what happened? Today ground up the exact same bean and had a delicious brew without any off aromas/flavors
Seems known, with unknown reasons, research just started recently.
And what's wrong... it's random...


Years ago beans from Burundi had a similar problem. All it takes is a few beans to taint the entire batch when you roast them.

I had small batches so I would sort through them and pull and funky looking or beans with holes.

I thought I had, but will go back and resort ---- so weird. lol
Any chance for an UV lamp ?
Was told that the mold responsible of this smell can be seen in UV light...
Unfortunately I don't have a UV lamp
