After 42 years of being married I think I have the drill down pretty well

I do enjoy going into specialty roasting houses around the US and talking coffee with the owners.

We can travel about a week on a pound of coffee. So around day 5 I start hitting the internet looking for someone that is on our travel route and plan to stop and purchase my next week's beans.

I will have to say that it is rare to find someone who has "lost the thrill" and just sells "what ever.... it's just coffee" but it has happened. Most of the time I run into an enthusiastic roaster who is happy to have someone come in who can talk roasting profiles with them.

I've made some good friends and strong acquaintances across the US. They are all very surprised that I took the time to search them out just to get "good coffee"

traveling with Mick is an adventure all on its own. I do enjoy going to places most people would never think of, like power plants and other large institutional factories to take "the tour". Even if they don't have one, someone in management is so impressed that an "outsider" would have that much interest that sometimes we end up walking around with the "big wheel".

I will have to say that the country has changed a lot in as far as security. It is much harder to get a tour of a large hydro facility as it was in the past.

It drives the wife nuts but she puts up with me.
