Morning Ed, I haven't done any green coffee hoarding yet but am hoping the supplies don't end up like the toilet paper isles!

GENE CAFE v. Hot Top
Hey all:

I was looking around this am about comments regarding the Gene Cafe v. the Hot Top...

I am really wondering if I should get a Gene Cafe or add the 100 buck digital panel to my Hot Top?

An OZ one way or the other is not a concern. The ability to do fast back to back is a real plus with a "small" batch roaster.

Thoughts please.

I know there was a discussion on another forum a few weeks ago but I missed it.

GrinGrin always, B)B)B)B) today it's 87 out and s:8s:8 because it feels good.
This may be the thread in case you would want it:
The posts further down talk about the comparison.

I've used neither so only provide the link.

A Hottop I do not own, but I do own a Gene Cafe. I would love to have a Hottop to do a side-by-side comparison.

With respect to doing back-to-back batches, the Gene Cafe is a workhorse! I have run as many as 35 consecutive roasts in an 11 hour session, which amounted to just over 18 1/2 pounds, pre-roast.

When I use the Gene Cafe, I never let it rest or cool down between batches. I use an external cooling source so I dump the beans, load the next batch and start the next roast. Using this method I can get at least three 227g - 250g batches done per hour.

To date I have roasted 402 batches / 211 pounds in the Gene Cafe and have owned it for 7 months. It will be roasting about 10 pounds tomorrow.
