Email address correct. I constantly check junk folder. I turned off, then on, the setting to receive notice.

Fixed a ground loop problem in a home built roaster
snwcmpr
As some of you know I purchased a roaster built by Allen.
It is awesome.

I switched one of the TCs that Allen put in the roaster with XCIB-K-1-5-3 from Omega. This was a TC recommended for the HT mod that I did not do.
http://www.omega..../XCIB.html
K for K Type Thermocouple
1 for Grounded Welded Junction
5 for Stripped leads
3 for 3 Feet
******
I tried it twice and got erratic readings at 1C and after. (Weird!!)
I read about the ground loop problem here, but asked JackH what he thought. he verified the ground loop problem, as did Omega customer support.

I had some silicone items in my Amazon wish list.
Silicone sheet for espresso makers, silicone o-rings for the bake-a-round glass, and so i added this silicone tubing.

The tubing fits inside the threaded rod Allen used to locate the TC deep inside the glass RC. And the TC slides snugly all the way through and insulates it from 'ground'.
******
I no longer get the erratic reading.

Ok, why replace it?
I was worried that my moving the roaster around a lot would eventually cause the TC wire to break and then to fail. I hope this TC will be more able to withstand the moving. I have to move the roaster away when working in that area.

I plan to add some connectors, firmly attached to the Roaster's box, and use the flex cables to connect to the TC4

Ken, I am glad it worked. Another way is to add a ground wire from the ground terminal on the TC4 to a good ground source.

I use panel mount probe connectors and never have trouble with the thermocouple wires.

Yes, Jack, that is what I planned to use. I used the ones I had on the TC4 box.
