Burner or Heating element BTU's/KW

Here's a rough first draft of a chart showing batch size versus an estimate of BTU's/Kilowatts needed. This is not based off of any scientific or mathematical models but is from examples of various roasters in production from several companies.

Dan's factor of 1.52 when increasing batch size times 2 seems to be close with some in the list.

These numbers are taken only from drum roasters with powered exhaust and typical fluidbed roasters. Infrared to bean roasters will probably require less kw per lb. if not using powered exhaust.

Please post any additional examples you find out there and I'll add it to the list or alter any numbers that are way off.

If you can reclaim enough RC heat to maintain 150F at your blower inlet,
you will only need 1.2-1.5 KW to roast one pound to full-city in 12-13 minutes:
1) Drying = 4 minutes @ 1200 watts + 20% reclaim
2) Ramp to First Crack = 4-5 minutes @ 1700 watts + 40% reclaim
3) Finish = 4 minutes @ 1360 watts + 20% reclaim
