Hi from Italy

I'm just starting out my coffee roasting journey and trying with pan roasting.

Happy to have found a community where i can learn and ask questions.
Just started pan roasting
Welcome to Homeroasters!
Pan roasting is a great way to start. You can learn a lot about roasting from the process.

KKTO Roaster.
I found that some coffees are more suitable for pan roasting, such as Ethiopian Yirgicheffe. Which makes sense since coffee is traditionally pan roasted in nearly every home in Ethiopia three times a day. In fact, the way I got started roasting was that I was visiting my daughter and she told me there was an Ethiopian store down the street that had green coffee. So we bought some just to roast it as an experiment. It only took two tries to get it so good I was incurably hooked on home roasting.

Sumatra Mandheling Decaf was another one that pan roasted wonderfully. It was much easier to get it dialed in pan roasting than drum roasting.

I never could get Costa Rica Tarrazu or Kenya Kirinyaga dialed in pan roasting. I didn't get those dialed in until I had a thermometer in the drum so I could figure out what temperature to hold it at during the first crack.

A morning without coffee is like a marriage without a honeymoon.
